The choice is yours. (Or is it?)

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called

Ephesians 4:1 (ESV)

*First things first – I did not write this post with the intentions of being really theological or in-depth.  I simply want to provoke thought.  That said…

What if this verse said chosen instead of called?  Think about the implications!

I therefore…urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have chosen…

If the verse said this, then the calling to which Paul challenges the reader to walk in would be one of the reader’s own choosing; the manner in which the reader is to walk would not be under God’s final authority.

What if everyone chose their own calling?  Are humans morally capable to make decisions that align with God’s?  In a world in which humans have control over every decision they make – even decisions of the utmost importance, such as those of eternity – is there even a need for God?

Something to think about.
