The majesty of song.
Now that I know 3 songs on piano, I have officially decided to record a cd. Many will mock me for this decision, mostly because my singing voice is only appreciated by God Almighty. But I figure if Miley Cyrus can be so popular – as horrid as she sounds – I too can be a star.
My piano skills are lacking at this point in the recording process, so it’s rather fortunate that I play guitar. As an artist, I will feature an acoustic, bluesy feel to my music, influenced mainly by the likes of John Mayer and Amos Lee. My lyrics will likely mimic the aforementioned artists, as well as songwriters Jeremy Riddle, Charlie Hall, Dave Barnes, and Jesus Himself.
While on the subject of lyrics, I think it’s important that I give the public a preview of what I’ve been working on. Please note that these are just one or two line wonders that have graced my heart and found their way into my musical embrace.
This first one shows a lot of promise I think:
If I were a dragonfly, I’d fly high, oh so high, into the sky.
If I were a dragonfly, I would never cry, because I could fly.
This one is my personal favorite and will hopefully, upon completion, be the album’s featured track:
Jesus, Jesus had no home.
Jesus, Jesus had no phone.
Jesus, Jesus had no car.
If I were Jesus, I wouldn’t get far.
This is a lick that derived from a request I received from Amanda Baxter and Paige Henington:
Mr. Hippopotamus, why are you so gray?
And Mr. Hippo, why does your color share my same name?
I wish you were blue, or green, or even yellow.
If you were a man, I think you’d be a rather stand-up fellow.
I don’t know. I mean, things like that. It’s a work in progress that has only just begun, so hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll have my first single ready for debut.
I’ll try to remain committed to learning the piano. However, if I do not, I think it’s needless to say that all songs on my cd will feature acoustic guitar only. And, well, maybe some whistling. You just never know where the music will lead me.
